My Tree Cutter

This splintered tree has been the view outside my kitchen window since last fall.  This is after the bent part has been cut off the stump that remains.  Below are some action shots of John taking the tree down.  It kept getting hung up in the surrounding trees, so he eventually had to pull it down with the truck and a strap.

One down...10 to go.  lol

Shade Garden

Since the herb garden didn't do very well in this spot, we decided to expand the shade garden...this is the garden that was planted last year with the new rubber mulch.  The regular mulch was growing artillery mold, which was shooting a brown tar like substance on the house and railings.

This is our Bleeding Heart Plant in bloom.

This is a shot from the porch of the new plants...hostas, bleeding hearts, sweet woodruff and astilbe.

Landscaping

The grass is slowly coming in, so we went and purchased some more plants and shrubs to complete the landscaping at the front of the house.  I think home buyers underestimate the value of landscaping when purchasing a home.  It's taken a lot of time, work and money to add all of this to the house and yard over the last 2 years and we still have so much to do!  As an aside, I'm thinking of painting the front door black.  Any thoughts?

Here's a picture of part of the area we landscaped last fall.  We have several more plants to plant in this area.  I'm hoping to do it tonight.

Here's the layout of the shrubs for in front of the window...Hanoki Cypress, Japonicas and a cone shaped Boxwood.

My husband leveling out the plants.

The Storybook roses bordering the sidewalk near the entry.

A pink Storybook Rose in bloom.

More photos to come when the mulching, edging and other plants are finally in!

The Landscaping continues....

We now have shrubs and trees planted in the front of the house. These are pics before more dirt was spread and mulch is put in. That will happen this week. You can see before pics here. We were worried that we would not be able to plant, since it is November, but the nursery said it would be fine and we are trusting that they are correct.

Here's a view from the steps...and with my shadow. The tree is a red maple that won't get much larger than it is right now. I think it looks more like a home with the plants...

Another shot, a bit closer. I can't believe this area was covered in snow last Saturday! DH added in the dirt and put in a few landscape lights later today, but it was too dark to take photos.

Randomness

My guys were filling in the beds today for our landscaping. It's starting to look like a yard!

The dirt pile is diminishing...love it!

Here's the sidewalk with the dirt filled in on the other side. We're planning on planting some StoryBook Roses in this area.

Just some flowers I bought yesterday...love sunflowers and the bouquet smells so great!

Sidewalk

This is the layout for the new paver sidewalk to our front porch.

Here is the work in progress. The sand is used as the base for the pavers.

The pavers look all gray, but there is a variation in the colors. The edge is gray, the center is a blend of brown and gray.

Weird angle, but you get the idea.

This is the view from just above the steps. J still needs to do the step to the porch and backfill, but the rain is stopping that process. Landscaping is next!
