Rite of Blessing

On December 2nd, Miss M will be making her First Reconciliation.  Today was the Rite of Blessing and Committment for the students and parents.  Above is Miss M before heading to mass this morning.

This is a blurry picture of her walking in the procession at the beginning of mass.  My camera died right after I snapped this, so it is what it is, I guess.

County Fair

Each year we visit the county fair on Labor Day weekend to eat some great food, see the farm animals and equipment and to volunteer at dh's employer's booth.  These are some photos from our time there yesterday afternoon.  The kids had a great time.

"Homemade"Donuts

Yesterday after Mass, I made some "homemade" donuts.  First you open a can of jumbo refrigerator bicuits and seperate them.  Using a circle cutter, cut out the center of each biscuit to form your donut.  I used fall themed cookie cutters because my smallest circle cutter somehow disappeared in the drawer.  While cutting out the centers, heat about 1/2 inch of oil, I used vegetable, in a skillet or chicken fryer.

Fry each side of the biscuits until golden brown.  (Can you see the leaf and acorn shapes!?)

Then drain donuts on paper towels until cool enough to handle.  Once they are cool enough to handle, dip one side of the donut into melted butter, letting the excess go back into the bowl.  (I used 4 tbsp. melted for the eight donuts and holes.)  Then dip into a bowl that has a combo of cinnamon and sugar.  I didn't measure that, but you can do it to your liking.  We like a lot of cinnamon.  Then repeat on the other side of the donut.

These are the holes that I fried up...they were my favorite part!

Enjoy!

Curtains for the classroom

My classroom is done in black and colorful dots.  I bought this fabric to accent the other fabrics in my classroom and made a runner and curtain for a shelf with it.  It was very easy to sew and took about 10  minutes, including cutting and ironing.

First Day of School 2012-2013

The first day of school was August 28th for our kids.  It's hard to believe we now have an 8th grader and a 2nd grader in our family!  It was a really busy first week with open houses at both schools, hockey, and dance open house.  Above is our 8th grader, who recently got contacts and braces and grew about 3 inches over the summer!  He's enjoying his 8th grade year and seems to be in the swing of things very quickly.  We're blessed that he is a responsible, polite young man.

This is our second grader in the same spot. She grew over the summer as well.  She was quite excited on the first day of school.  She was even awake at 4:30 am, ready to go!  She had a great week in school and is so happy to have the same teacher that she had in first grade.  Her excitement is so refreshing and energizing.
