Playroom Updates

We built our home over 2 years ago.  The upstairs playroom/bonus room, has for the most part, been unfinished. The kids use it to watch TV and movies, play video games and just play.  It has evolved and the air hockey table is gone, the play kitchen, and plastic furniture are no longer part of the decor.  Above is the before photo, just as J started painting.  The walls are now a gray color from Sherwin-Williams.  I'm not sure of the name, but will check on it.  We also used a matte finish, which is so nice and it wipes clean easily.  Above shows the play area.
Our first purchase was the Ektorp love seat with chaise from IKEA.  We love it and I love the color!
(The boxes in the back corner are filled with photos, china, and memorabilia....dh is working on a cabinet to hide that clutter and finally get it unpacked...will share photos when it is done!)

A 9-cube organizer we had purchased when we first moved in was organized and moved against the back wall behind the couch.  The lamp and frame are new from Target.

This is a closer view of the drapery fabric.

Under the drapes is a white roman shade, which is hard to see with the light.  The kids really said the room feels much cozier now and they want to spend time there.  I'm still on the look out for pillows and a throw, along with a few other accessories.  As soon as I get some art on the walls, I will share photos of that.  I hope to get a flat screen TV sometime soon, too.

The Reveal

We decided on black for the front door.  I think it looks nice.  It took two coats of primer and three coats of paint to achieve this look.  What do you think?  We like it.

Landscaping

The grass is slowly coming in, so we went and purchased some more plants and shrubs to complete the landscaping at the front of the house.  I think home buyers underestimate the value of landscaping when purchasing a home.  It's taken a lot of time, work and money to add all of this to the house and yard over the last 2 years and we still have so much to do!  As an aside, I'm thinking of painting the front door black.  Any thoughts?

Here's a picture of part of the area we landscaped last fall.  We have several more plants to plant in this area.  I'm hoping to do it tonight.

Here's the layout of the shrubs for in front of the window...Hanoki Cypress, Japonicas and a cone shaped Boxwood.

My husband leveling out the plants.

The Storybook roses bordering the sidewalk near the entry.

A pink Storybook Rose in bloom.

More photos to come when the mulching, edging and other plants are finally in!

The Landscaping continues....

We now have shrubs and trees planted in the front of the house. These are pics before more dirt was spread and mulch is put in. That will happen this week. You can see before pics here. We were worried that we would not be able to plant, since it is November, but the nursery said it would be fine and we are trusting that they are correct.

Here's a view from the steps...and with my shadow. The tree is a red maple that won't get much larger than it is right now. I think it looks more like a home with the plants...

Another shot, a bit closer. I can't believe this area was covered in snow last Saturday! DH added in the dirt and put in a few landscape lights later today, but it was too dark to take photos.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sidewalk

This is the layout for the new paver sidewalk to our front porch.

Here is the work in progress. The sand is used as the base for the pavers.

The pavers look all gray, but there is a variation in the colors. The edge is gray, the center is a blend of brown and gray.

Weird angle, but you get the idea.

This is the view from just above the steps. J still needs to do the step to the porch and backfill, but the rain is stopping that process. Landscaping is next!

We took a trip to the local paving stone manufacturer and picked out our stone for the retaining wall and the front sidewalk. Above is the stone we chose for the retaining wall. It will be in by the end of next week.

Above are the pavers we chose for the walkway. I chose the colors to coordinate with the retaining wall. The granite on the left will edge the sidewalk and the blend on the right will be in the center in that same pattern only using the smaller block like the granite colored ones. I am hoping that it all coordinates well with the house.

Thanks for stopping by!
