Hockey Banquet 2012

I'm a bit late, but here are a few pics from ds's hockey banquet.  It was held at the home arena earlier this month.  It was a potluck and we brought the cake.

Here's our son before being called up for his photo collage the coach made for each player.

DD showing her school pride in black and red.

After dinner, the players and their families were invited to play a few games of hockey.  Above is my hubby on the ice.  He was wiped out after playing for 2 hours.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thirty-One Hostess Gifts

I hosted a thirty-one gifts party earlier this month. Above is a photo of most of the goodies I picked with my hostess rewards. The denim bag was FREE! It is priced at 125.00. I also got the take along organizer to the left of the purse for free as well. The inside has a tablet and slots for pens and a velcro pocket. I purchased the basket as a half price item, as well as an over the door organizer (not pictured, but will share one of it soon). I am considering putting the over the door organizer in my classroom, but may wait until next school year to do that. The quilted bag was a hostess bonus. It is a double cosmetic bag that is loaded with small clear plastic bags and compartments. I'm going to use mine for my Bible and kindle when going to Bible Study.

Thank you to everyone who ordered and came to the party! It made it possible for me to purchase and receive some great items! Now it's time to fill up that new purse!

Book Giveaway

I have one copy of Holley Gerth's new book You're Already Amazing to giveaway to one lucky reader of my blog. I started reading this book on Monday and am about half way through it. I've gained some wonderful insight into who I am and what God has called me to do. (in)courage is doing a book study with this work beginning Monday. I am so looking forward to it!
Here's a description of the book from Amazon:

Women feel enormous pressure to be perfect. To have the perfect body, to be
a perfect woman, to have the perfect career, and to have the perfect attitude.
All the time. Under all that pressure and all those expectations are women
carrying burdens they were never meant to carry and suppressing the dreams they
were always meant to live.In You're Already Amazing, popular blogger and cofounder of (in)courage helps women understand and embrace the fact that they don't need to do more, be more, and have more--because they're already amazing just the way God created them to be. As a
licensed counselor and certified life coach, Holley knows what readers need to
hear. Like a heart-to-heart talk over coffee, reading this joy-filled book
encourages women to forget the lies and expectations the world feeds them,
instead believing that God made them for a purpose and that he loves them right
now, at this moment, and always. Holley takes readers on a journey of the heart
to discover their strengths and embrace all God created them to be.
You can visit Holley's site at www.holleygerth.com for more information.
Please leave a comment to be entered to win. The winner will be chosen on Friday, March 23rd.

Peperoncini Beef Sandwiches

Peperoncini Roast Beef Sandwiches
2 pounds beef chuck roast
1 (12 ounce) jar peperoncini peppers (sliced or whole)
2 loaves french bread (I used Schwan's )
6 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
This is very simple: In a crockpot, place the chuck roast. Dump the jar of peppers and all the juice over the roast. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours. Remove beef from crockpot and shred into pieces, discarding any fat. Return shredded beef to the crockpot, combining it with the peppers and broth in the crockpot. Continue to cook on low for another 30-60 minutes. Serve on french bread topped with cheese. I broiled our sandwiches for about 2 minutes to melt the cheese. They were delicious! Enjoy!

Love my daughter...

She left me these notes on my desk yesterday. They say: "will you always be mine. I love you so much that's all I have to say." So cute!

Testing Motivators

It's testing week in our state. This is my first year administering the PSSAs and I thought I'd make up some motivators for my students. Above is a printable from www.lessonplanSOS.com that I gave out on the first day with a pack of Smarties candy.
Dum-Dum Lollipos with a flag
Starburst Candies with a flag
Cookies with a tag that says "You are a "smart cookie"! Good Luck!
Licorice
I didn't get overly fancy since my students are sixth graders after all, but I do think they like the whole idea since they've been saving my little sayings and taking them with them after testing. That makes my teacher heart happy.

More additions to the Den

I added the table and pillow to my reading corner this weekend. I had the lamp on my desk, but decided that it is the perfect size for this reading corner and will save me from buying a floor lamp at this time. I have ordered the checkered pillow for the chair too. I am still searching for the perfect throw. Any ideas where to find one? I still need to accessorize the table...thinking photo of my loves and some kind of knick-knack. I have to do something with those cords too!

Baby Gift Idea

This gift idea is from Darling Doodles. It is called Time for Baby. If you visit the site, there are printable tags that you can add to the gifts for each activity in a baby's day. In the morning, it's an outfit to wear. The afternoon brings spoons and cups for feeding. The evening brings washclothes, a hooded towel and baby wash to get ready for bed. I tied the tags to the gifts using pink ribbon. Then wrapped each part in tissue paper and arranged it in a large gift bag. A basket would work just as well. I couldn't find one that was what I wanted while shopping this week.

I tied the final tag...of the clock...on front of the bag. I hope the recipients like it!

Chicken and Dumplings

This is one of my new favorite recipes. We enjoy eating it with carrots mixed in and lots of pepper on top. The photo is from Comfy in the Kitchen. I found the recipe on her site, but adjusted it because I found her dumpling dough to be too sticky. This is the final version after several different attempts at correcting that issue. Thank you for stopping by!
