Student Teacher Gift Idea

My student teacher finished up her placement with us today.  Here's part of her gift from myself and the students.  I bought her a personalized bucket and filled it with Dove candy bars (her fave), a small wooden sign, a teacher Hallmark ornament, and a gift card for Amazon to pick a book for her classroom.  The students made her the fingerprint tree shown below.

Homecoming Dance

Where does time go?  The last I remember, H was going to elementary school with me every morning!  Now he is a high school sophomore, soon to be 16 and driving a vehicle.  Words cannot express how proud of him I am, or how much I love this son of ours.  I am blessed to be his mom.  This is him, with his braces free smile, on the night of his first formal dance with a date!

Here's a pic with us and H's date, Sarah Beth.  I couldn't find a picture where J's eyes weren't closed.
We have known Sarah's family for over 30 years, so it was nice to catch up with them too.

Applesauce Cinnamon Oat Muffins

I have been making muffins each weekend for the family to take in lunches or to grab as a morning treat on their way to work or school.  I have made Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins and today, the Oatmeal Cinnamon Applesauce Muffins pictured above.  They are moist and tender on the inside, with a nice crunchy topping on the outside.
Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
1 1/2 cup quick-oats
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup  applesauce
1/2 cup reduced fat milk
3 tbsp canola oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg white
topping:
1 tbs butter, melted
1/4 cup quick oats
1 tbs brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 400. Grease a muffin tin or line with liners and set aside. (
In a large bowl combine the first seven ingredients (dry ingredients).
In another bowl combine the wet ingredients together. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix slowly until just combined.
Fill muffins tins or liners 3/4 full with batter.
Combine the topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over batter.
Bake for 15-18 minutes (or until toothpick comes out clean).slightly adapted from Taste of Home and Sweet Treats and More

Dance Recital 2014

The annual picture of H and M before we leave for the recital.  I posted other pics of M on Facebook.  It was a beautiful program.  She had 3 dances tonight, one each for tap, ballet and jazz.  She and her classmates did a beautiful job.

Happy Birthday Miss M!

Miss M celebrated her 9th birthday at school with her friends. Then had a party with her grandparents, godparents, uncles and friends.  Madison is a talkative, smart, talented, outgoing, God loving girl.  We are so blessed to be her parents!

Miss M is a reader and is always happy to receive books for her birthday!

We had a mime, aka Cody, at our Paris party!

My brother, Kim and the mime pose for a photo in their costumes.

 Just blew out the candles!

All dressed up!

Her gift from H.

Her new comforter...

...and froggy!

A jewelry box from her grandparents, plus many more gifts.  M was very blessed!

All M wanted for her 9th birthday, besides books and a new comforter, was to have her ears pierced.  We visited Piercing Pagoda today, and had them done!

She did very well and is in love with her new star earrings!

My Tree Cutter

This splintered tree has been the view outside my kitchen window since last fall.  This is after the bent part has been cut off the stump that remains.  Below are some action shots of John taking the tree down.  It kept getting hung up in the surrounding trees, so he eventually had to pull it down with the truck and a strap.

One down...10 to go.  lol

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I made the treats above for the teachers on our team.  Trying to spread some cheer and teach my students to be encouragers.  The printable is available here.

I made the above treats for our kids and my DH....just a little rainbow on a dreary St. Patrick's Day! That printable is available here.  You can check out my other St. Patrick's Day pins at http://www.pinterest.com/ldryzal/st-patrick-s-day/ or visit my classroom blog at

Snow Day...AGAIN!

These are some photos from when I woke up around 7 am this morning.  We had gotten a lot of snow overnight, at least 4-6 inches.

The pictures below were taken during the "thunder snow" event.

Thankful that we did not have to venture into this storm to get to school today!

Of course, hockey is still on for tonight!  Go Red Devils!
