Black Cabinet

I wanted some kind of cabinet for in the family room/playroom area to store my photo albums, as well as some of my china collection.  J just finished the project on Tuesday.  We found the inspiration on Pinterest, of course.   The cabinet is made of 3 stock cabinets from Lowe's.  If you would like to see the directions, visit http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,20310641,00.html I still have to pick knobs and pulls, and "merchandise" the top.  I'm thinking lamp and a family photo display.  I found the photos that are on there now while unpacking boxes.

I am considering glass knobs and pulls to give it a little sparkle.

First Communion Lollipops

I wanted to have a small token of thanks for everyone who attends Miss M's First Communion Party.  I ordered the swirl pops from Oriental Trading.  They came with stickers to personalize the pops.  I added ribbon to the sticks and arranged them in floral foam inside a pink bucket that I bought on clearance after Easter.  I filled in the gaps with pink paper shreds.

One more thing done on my to do list!

First Communion Veil

I had a hard time finding First Communion clothing in our area.  I did travel out of town and found a dress for Miss M's big day.  It's much simpler than I would have chosen, but it's the girl's big day and she gets to pick.  I ended up buying materials to create a veil .  I picked up the plain veil at Michael's.  I bought the white satin headband and flowers for embellishment at JoAnn's.

I removed the comb from the veil and sewed the short part of the tulle to the satin that was in place to hold the hair comb.  We tried the headband with the short piece showing and it just wasn't right.  Then I hot glued the veil to the headband.  Once that was in place, I hot glued the flowers to the headband, putting the larger one first, then nestling the smaller ones in the center of each.

Here's the view from the front.  I think it came out okay.  My girl is all about simplicity for this day.  If M is happy, Mama is happy!

Random....

We've been pretty busy this last month, but finally things are slowing down.  My dear friend's daughter got married last weeked.  We had a really nice time at the wedding reception.

The beautiful floral centerpieces on some of the tables.  I loved the pink and gray scheme.

...and after!

We also attended the annual hockey banquet for travel hockey this month.   Above is H with the team's PAHL Season Champions Banner and....

...with the team's PAHL Playoff Champions Banner.  Both banners will hang in the home arena...The Cambria County War Memorial Arena.    H was also awared the PAHL Academic All-Star Award for his high level of achievement in school while playing hockey.  We're very proud of our son!

First Holy Communion preparations continue.  I found some beautiful paper goods for the party.  I decided to make Miss M's veil.    I will post pictures as soon as it's done.   The school year is winding down...can I get an Alleluia?!...it's been a tough few months.

Thanks for stopping by!

First Holy Communion Invitations and Stickers

Above are the stickers I made for the envelopes for Miss M's First Communion Invites.  I think they came out very well.  I used the template on the Avery website and made them in about 4 minutes.

These are the invites.  I had wanted to have some custom printed, but decided that the budget didn't allow that splurge.  I found the pack of 20 invites at the local Hallmark store for around eight dollars.  Not too shabby!

First Holy Communion Cupcake Toppers

Miss M will be receiving her First Holy Communion on May 5th.  I ordered a cake for the day, but am also making cupcakes.  I am working on the toppers today.  The circle is from textured cardstock.  The cross is white cardstock.  Both were cut with the Cricut using the Easter 2010 cartridge.  I am planning on adding a faux diamond to the center of each cross.  Then I'll attach them to a lollipop stick and place in each cupcake.
